I know the intention of this blog lends itself towards architecture. One could argue that architecture, being a drive that pursues the ability to set a stage for life, this is most relevant. As I’m sure many of you have not heard (as the South African news service has no integrity to report the true story), Israel swopped prisoners for the release of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev. Instead of the families of the Israeli soldiers being able to rejoice in the return of their loved ones, the same privilege that was granted to the leboneese families, tonight, mothers cry over the fact that they were returned body parts of the souls that they anguished to see.

I am deeply saddened by the fact that people that I care about were returned in coffins, but what angers me is the fact that monsters like samir kantar were welcomed in ecstatic and celebrated manor; that supposed leaders who seek peace like abbas, “praised the prisoner swap and congratulated the kuntar family.” What has that society come to when murderers are celebrated as heroes?

I could write for pages of the disgust that envelopes me at this moment in the nations that surround Israel, but I think that Olmert and the father of one of the returned soldiers, Shlomo Goldwasser.

Those who celebrate the fact that dead Israeli soldiers were swopped for murderers, you are a virus to the world, and I hope for the day that you are no more!

I dont see him having any problems with it, so if you'd like to know your day/ time- you can call me- you know my number, or e-mail me (feige.t.l@gmail.com) Please don't sms, Because Im not responding to 60 people. Just know that it is subject to change until Peter ok's it.

CONSTRUCTION: TIME WITH DALEEN
Daleen is happy to meet with us 1 more time, to help/ advise us with our working drawings. I suggested monday afternoon-after civil exam. Can I please get some feedback if this time is ok, if you will attend and if it isn't suggest another day-keep in mind Wednesday is already the reviews, and Tuesday Im guessing last minute prep will be going on. Ps. that glass sheet that morne gave me Ill add to the cad lab after the reviews only.

DESIGN
The Indian house project is due on Monday, And I've been led to believe that the Alex 2 project is to be pinned up as well, I think on Monday he will select the entries thst will be taken through to the competition and thsoe people will nhave an extra week to work on their submissions. Peter has promised me that the mark list will be up on Monday

CONSTRUCTION
If anyone would like to see the construction tutors on Wednesday, please let me know. Daleen is coming in to see me at 1, and will come in earlier depending on how many students want to see her. On friday afternoon when I went to see Gerald Morne hadn't emailed the mark list yet, but Gerald said hed pin up the new marks when they had been emailed, hopefully by Monday this will have been done.

DISCOURSE
Your sketchbooks are to be completed for when we write the exam on Friday. The complete list of what should be in them is in our file in the library. You can add any annotated sketches into them , but no notes. DD put the digital lectures onto the public folder on Friday. Now apparently Hannah does have marks up, I will try get some list up on Monday

CIVIL
When I went to his office on Friday to get the extra questions he wasn't there, I will get them on Monday and will have them with me in studio in the afternoon

Monday 16 Oct Peter will be given us preliminary marks for the new project but final han-in is OCT 23, which is in exactly a week. A mark list is supposed to be up tommorow.

CONSTRUCTION
For portfolio review we will be expected to have a 1:20 section detail through every building we have designed this year (semi, timber, alex 1, alex 2 & new) I think that detialed model project was scrapped. Ill try have a mark list for us soon.

Im introducing weekly round-up to our blog. Here's a rundown of what you need to know from this week and what to expect for next

Design
Well done to the students who were selected for the Alex thing!- They are expecting to see development from you guys on Monday. For the rest of us, get cracking on the new project. A site map CAD drawing was put onto public Folder by Marc. He also has a printed A4 page, and Faheem should have the A3. Site is really close and not dodge at all. Monday isn't going to be a final final, but Peter said its better for you if you treat it like the last project.

I asked Peter for some indication of what our year marks are sitting at, he said he'll have a list up next monday.

Construction
For those of you who didn't hand-in your municipal submissions, Saturday is your last chance. Tenille is going through to PTA tommorow, so if you need to give yours to her, get hold of her-if you cant make your own plan to get there, after saturday any late submission will get a 10% per day deduction. For those of us who did hand in on time,we will be awarded bonus marks, instead of taking marks off from the ones he gets tommorow, seeing as there was a mis-communication with time deadline.

As far as Wednesday goes. Our tutorial session was cancelled because there weren't enough students present. This week, we will be given our tut assignment to do after the Powerpoints,a nd it will be for DP so we are all expected to be there.

Black Box Studio Project

The cube is not only a studio in a studio. It creates an area for discussion. The outer shell will be painted in Black board paint allowing the wall to become a mural filled with ideas and concepts, allowing future Architects to communicate through Drawing.

The cube has been placed off centre creating a large space for discussion and a smaller space, alongside the cube and existing partitioning, for a workspace area.

I hope that everyone is having a great break.

Let me tell you about a little adventure that Justin Otten and I have gone on. Last week we went to go see Lafarge Gypsum to inquire how much dry walling would be. Specifically to enclose a 3m x 3.6m space. Very generously, they have sponsored the materials for what we like to call the "Big Black Box" The intention behind this project is to change the dynamic of the space that we like to call the second year studio into one that is more user friendly, and ultimately comfortable. In my view the space was too large and too empty. By subdividing the space, newer smaller spaces have been created. The internal space will be used as a studio by me and Justin till the end of the year, and the intention is that the rest of you must add to it! Go get products and build a studio that works.

You might be wondering about the name... well, we intend on painting the box in Black board paint... the reason being that the studio that we have construction lectures is too small and confined... now we can use the studio as a space for learning... a massive board will be present and if the University agrees, we can add a pull down projector screen so a projector can be used.

We want to view this project as an addition to not only the second year studio, but jump start a tradition in the University of Exploring Space on a 1:1 scale. Start moving into the world of construction and understand building by building.

The schedule when we get back is as follows; On monday 11 Sep we have no lecture or studio, the time is for us to refine our work for presentation, which will take place on Thursday 14 September at 12pm (Lecture at 8:30am as per ususal). This will be the final realisation mark.

Hi All

I have been on the receiving end of alot of questions regarding what the money for this fundraising initiative is going to go towards.

To be honest, there isnt anything picked out for it yet. But the reason we'd like to have money, is so that we can do more things for the Arch students. Have more events, At the beginning of the years do a welcome mingle braai free of charge. There has even been the idea of opening up a coffee shop in our building. None of this is possible without a start-up capital. Any rumour that the money is to "furnish" the ARC room is completely false.

On the rep committee every member is assigned a job. I am fundraising-events, Lee-Anne is IT etc. Anyone who wants to join any sector, ie. crit, fundraising, It... is welcome to.

As far as I know Fundraising/events have never really taken place, and I'd really like to start this up,there is potential, and I believe it will be amazing to bring a more social aspect in our building. Alot of effort has been put in to make this event work, and it can't work without any of you, so I really do hope ul all attend.
